Laurel Lakes Community in Sarasota FL
Some remember it as Barton Farms because before 1990, it was pasture land. Now Laurel Lakes is an upscale neighborhood located East of I-75 in Sarasota Florida.
A developer by the name of Rex Horton, purchased the land and put in the infrastructure. Then in 2000, Lennar Homes decided to purchase the lots and build a few model homes. It’s funny to think about it now, but looking back, in the year 2000, the community seemed to be so far from civilization. There wasn’t much infrastructure nearby either….but that was to come later. Now, there are restaurants, grocery stores and just about anything you need, nearby.
There is a large, elongated lake on the property, which is spring fed and all the other lakes are fed from it. Laurel Lakes has lots of wildlife. You’ll see Osprey fishing in the lakes, heron, egrets, white pelicans. Many of the residents also use the lakes for fishing largemouth bass, catfish and tilapia.
Laurel Lakes in Sarasota FL, has many wonderful amenities. Many folks love to kayak in the biggest of lakes. There’s also a community center, which is a gathering place for community social activities. There are tennis courts, a heated swimming pool and a fitness center. The community is adjacent to one of Sarasota’s best golf courses…Laurel Oaks, which is a semi-private club. Another great feature is that Rothenbach Park is only 1/2 mile away and features hiking and biking trails.
Homeowner Association fees are reasonable at $1,117 per year and with that you have reclaimed water for your lawn irrigation, saving you lots of money for water. The community does not have a CDD fee.

“I have lived in Laurel Lakes for 13 years”, says Gail Runyon, a Realtor with Conway Associates and RE/MAX Alliance Group. “I left in 2012 and missed the beautiful spring fed lakes, peaceful quietness of the area so much that we decided to come back in 2015. The community is very active with many social events and a great way to make new friends. Laurel Lakes also offers a beautiful clubhouse, gym, heated pool and tennis courts. This is a natural gas area which makes it very attractive to a lot of folks. You can bike ride to Publix or the beautiful Rothenback Park.”
